In 2013, the Nicole Marie Garrish Memorial Foundation was established in honor of our beloved Nicole. During its first year, the foundation has successfully funded 6 local scholarships in the Boca Raton and Atlanta areas. Over the past two years the NMG Foundation has supported many organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The American Heart Association, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The American Cancer Society, Debbie’s Dream Foundation, Florida State University Alumni Association and Delta Delta Delta Foundation. Friends of the foundation have generously donated a memorial bench and garden arbor to Boca Raton’s Community Garden as well as a beautiful memorial bird bath and butterfly garden to the Tri Delta Sorority house, at Florida State University. Memorial bricks have can be found in front of Westcott Fountain at Florida State University, Tri Delta’s Executive Offices in Arlington Texas and Boca Raton’s Community Garden.
Today, Nicole’s memory is carried out by numerous events held from Florida to New York City. The “Noles for Nicole” event was started by her sorority sisters and close friends living in NYC to honor Nicole’s love of football and Florida State University. The annual “Noles for Nicole” events are held in Tallahassee, Florida and New York City. In South Florida, friends created “Cowboys and Angels” to bring friends and family together in honor of Nicole’s love of country music. Each of these events were formed to help support mourning friends and to celebrate Nicole’s 22 years of life. Proceeds from these events help support Nicole’s Memorial Foundation.
The foundation continues to spread love in honor of Nicole whenever they can. February 2014, during Heart Awareness Month, the NMG foundation donated teddy bears to heart patients at Boca Raton Community Hospital. These teddy bears earned the name “Wish-Bear Wings” because of the hand made heart shaped wings attached to backs of them. Each bear contained a special “get well” wish on its wings. Students from New York and Florida also contributed hand made get well cards that accompanied the bears.
For the year 2015, a new campaign will be supported by the NMG Foundation. During Heart Awareness month the foundation will partner with the American Heart Association in hopes to educate the public of the importance of early signs of Heart Disease and prevention . This campaign will run from February through early March. Upon the commencement of the 2015 Heart Awareness campaign, the foundation will co-host a 5k Run and Heart Walk at South Forsyth High School on March 14th. A portion of the proceeds from this event will help the foundation fund the South Forsyth High School Scholarship. An additional donation to the American Heart Association will be made.
